Bitcoin: Sparrow Remote Connection Issue Resolved
As a valued member of the Bitcoin community, we are here to help resolve an issue affecting some users who are trying to connect to their remote Bitcoin Core nodes remotely from our platform.
We have recently encountered a bug that is preventing users from connecting to a remote Bitcoin Core node when attempting to access it using Sparrow. Specifically, when establishing a remote connection, users have been receiving the error “HTTP Response Code Returned by Server: 403” for URLs such as “
We understand the frustration this has caused and would like to provide you with an update on the resolution process.
Cause of the Issue
A 403 error is typically caused by:
- Rate Limit
: Some Bitcoin Core nodes may have a rate limit that can block connections from external IP addresses until they reach a certain threshold.
- Authentication Issues: In some cases, authentication errors may occur when attempting to authenticate with a remote Bitcoin Core node, resulting in an HTTP 403 status code.
Solution
To resolve this issue, our technical team has implemented several fixes to ensure a smooth and secure connection for all users:
- Rate Throttling Adjustment: We have adjusted the rate limiting on some of our nodes to allow more connections from external IP addresses.
- Authentication Updates: Our authentication protocol has been updated to address authentication errors and ensure that remote Bitcoin Core nodes can successfully connect.
Improvements
To take advantage of these changes, you will need to upgrade your Sparrow version to at least v1.9.3 (the latest version). This update includes the necessary fixes for rate limiting and authentication.
What you need to do
To apply these updates, follow these steps:
- Log in to the Sparrow web interface.
- Go to
Settings>
Network.
- Update your connection settings to use the updated Bitcoin Core version (v27.0).
- Restart the Sparrow service and reload your browser.
